You won't get Bored with Cords

Nothing says holiday weather like corduroys. They keep you warm and are a great way to add texture to the normal pant/jean. With all the advancement in the styling of premium denim, it is no suprise that it has reached other genres of denim. The cord can now be found in various colors and styles from bootcut to the now popular skinny jean. Red Engine has come up the the four select colors you see below for their current season's corduroys (black, sand, chocolate, and loden)

Here is the Blaze Skinny in Black and the Scarlotte Bootcut in Chocolate which we currently have in stock. : )

Another Brand that carries more of a trouser fit for women is Tribal. We have this lovely bootcut pant in java and they sure are comfortable!

Get the "Skinny" on Skinny Jeans

As you know, from every magazine out right now - this season its all about the skinny jeans. But don't get us wrong - the word "skinny" refers to the bottom opening of the pant leg, NOT to the body type required to wear them! No matter what your shape or size, skinny jeans are a MUST HAVE in your wardrobe right now. The great thing is that they come in different cuts and different rises, so that every woman can find a pair to make her feel great!

There are many different fits when it comes to skinny jeans. One of our most popular skinny jeans right now is the Red Engine Cayenne (pictured below). This is going to be your most traditional and popular style of skinny jean. A jean cut like this has a very small bottom opening, and a somewhat lower rise. They are great for a slim to midsize girl. MUSTARD: Not just for sandwiches!

So this fall, one of the really hot colors is mustard yellow. While a lot of people may think this color is meant for food and food only - it is actually a great color for many different skin tones! It will be seen in everything from casual wear, to business wear, to cocktails and formals! Here are two examples of ways to wear this color!

If solid mustard is too much, try a printed dress with mustard in it, like this one.

If you still aren't so sure about embracing this hue, try easing yourself into it with accent pieces like this new Hobo International bag.

Still too much? Try getting in with this trend in the most subtle way by grabbing a scarf, shoes, earrings or a fun neclace to add to your ensemble!

So all of our readers may think that we are slacking on our technilogical obligations with twitter, facebook, and obviously this blog, but let me explain. We were debating about picking an itme of the week but we have gotten so many shipments in this past week with fall merchandise that we simply couldn't pick one.

So we have decided to continue last weeks, item of the week and give you a glimpse of all the new things that have come in. Things are already disappearing so come get it quickly.

Just yesterday we received the new colors in the Southern Marsh polo dresses! Southern Marsh is a company based out of Louisiana and does great casual wear for both southern guys AND girls. We have previously carried the navy dresses (which we still have a few). The new colors are great - a periwinkle blue (French Blue), teal green (windsor green), and rich purple (purple).

These dresses are easy to throw on to wear but you still look like you tried to look cute! They are great for spring, summer, AND fall, and are especially great for travel because they are so comfortable!

Well last year we opened our doors for the first time on Mountain Brook's Market Day in the village. It is hard to believe it has been an entire year. It has gone by so fast!

The day was hot, but we had such a great time! We were so blessed to have so many old friends of the store, and NEW friends of the store come by to see us. We had birthday cake (again) to celebrate this anniversary, and lemonade to help everyone cool down. Here are a few pictures of the festivities of the day.

We were so excited to his this landmark and are so blessed and thankful for all of you who have supported us from the beginning! Here's to many great anniversarys and Market Day's to come!

Fall Preview

Well we thought we would give ya'll a little sneak peak at what to expect to see here in the next few months. We are really excited about the merchandise we will be getting in starting now and lasting through the chilly months we are now so desperately awaiting! This heat is insane!

So here are four of the Analili pieces we will be receiving soon. Plan on seeing a lot of grey this fall with little pops of color! Grey and blush pink was EVERYWHERE at market.

Well, we turned one this past weekend and we had a huge sale and it went amazing. i could not tell you how thankful i am for everyone who showed up. We have the best customers and i am amazed at the amount of new people that are still just finding out about us. We had three days with a tent and had clothes availble at amazing discounts. This has been an amazing/challenging/educational year for all of us at Lulie's on Cahaba. On July 17th, we will have been open for a full year and i am elated to reach this milestone. I truly appreciate all the business that y'all have given me (and advice) because without customers, i wouldn't have reached this point. I'm hopeful there are many more years to come but i wanted to give back to our wonderful shoppers.

White Jeans

Aside from item of the week, i would like to write a little about things that catch my eye or have gotten a lot of publicity lately. White jeans are such the go to outfit that i can't help but mention them. Now, i know alot of you are very cautious when it comes to white pants but trust me, there is a pair for everyone.

Straight Figures:

What to look for: Play up any curves you do have with pocket embellishments and try a trim fit

What to avoid: Exaggerated bells and flares that look unbalanced on a ruler-straight frame

If You Have an Hourglass Figure:

What to look for: contoured waistband (it is tailored in at the waist and not just straight)

What to avoid: A straight-cut waistband, it will end up being to loose on your waist Wide-leg styles will make this body look boyish.

If You Have a Tummy

What to look for: Try a higher rise on the waist, it will reduce "overflow

What to avoid: Anythign without stretch to it, it needs to be flexible to move with you.

If You Have Full Hips and Thighs

What to look for: higher rise waistband but it needs to be contoured.

What to avoid: Very tapered legs that magnify wider hips.

So much is going on this month, so everyone mark your calendars. Not only are we having a girls night out event, we are also having a trunk show the previous weekend and an event is being hosted in Mountain Brook Village.

May 20th is going to be a little crazy in Mountain Brook but it's going to be so exciting. The streets are being blockaded for the Legends of Motor Sports car showing. These fabulous car will be displayed from 5pm-8pm that night but the streets will be closed off starting at 12pm to prep for the event. There will be so much going on including trunk shows, special discounts, food vendors, and bands. Lulies will be staying open late until 8pm and will have a sales rack on the street with cothing at least 50%off. We will also be giving discounts to anyone at the register from 10-30% off depending on the "hotwheel" they pick, which will decide your discount.

The next day and for Saturday, we will be having one of our amazing designers in the store for a Trunk Show. Anna Balkan is an incredible person and her semiprecious jewelry line is too. Get excited!!! We're having a trunk show on Saturday (April 17th, 2010) from 11am-3pm. In preparation, we just changed the mannequins and came up with this amazing outfit. It's an Analili ruffle top with one of By Smith silk jumpers. We're pretty pumped up about it. Smith Sinrod is a new designer who attended University of Alabama and this is only her second season with her line. All the silks come from Thailand and are of the finest quality... you can check it for yourself when you come in this weekend. Smith came in for a Trunk show earlier this year but we want even more people to come in and check it out this time, especially since the weather has been so gorgeous lately. See you Saturday. I'm super excited to have gotten this jewelry line in, its called GS Lillian and although it may look like they're heavy, they're actually lightweight. They make a variety of acessories from earrings to headbands and are all supercute

So i'm thinking from now on i will post an outfit/item of the week and maybe give a discount for anyone that mentions the blog and purchases that week's choice. So here is my first favorite!!! Last night we were putting out new merchandise from MM Couture and Mac and Jac and came up with this outfit. Of Course i love it because its brightly colored (lapis and lime green) but you should too because its flat out precious.

It includes a lapis sheer polka dot shirt with a lime greem cardiagan with sheer ruffle as well. The look is finished with a denim finshed cotton pant.

One of our best selling lines is a Paris Based company called Lauren Vidal. She is most well known for her perfect pant. Women love these because they are a flat front side zip and flatter all body types and its machine washable and wrinkle free. No matter what season, these popular pants are part of the collection but the colors do vary. I'm a bigger fan of the brightly colored ones but currently there are sand, ecru and black available.

The rest of her line is just as amazing. It's great for travel and very few of the pieces every need to be ironed because they are meant to have a wrinkle effect. the Lauren Vidal line has created it own following in the Birmingham area and people are constantly asking when the new season will be coming in. So good news! The Spring shipment has come in and sizes are limited to what we have in stock since all peiece are made to order. It is definately a unique line but it is great for all ages. And, who doesn't like a little European style once in a while.

When it Rains it Snows

With the weather that the Birmingham area has been having recently, its difficult to know what to wear each day. Not only that, but everyone is eager to buy warm weather clothing yet hesistant because one day can be 70 degrees and the next 30 degrees with snow. My best suggestion for the spring fever fix is to buy pieces that can be layered for colder temperatures but can just as well be worn into the spring and summer. Here are a few ideas for y'all

1. The Jumper

Now, there are several options for this piece on how it can be worn. You can wear the low scoopneck jumper with a turtleneck underneath when its chilly with tights, or when it gets warmer you can put a cap sleeve shirt underneath or even use the convertible option of the tunic and turn it around so that its a scoopback dress by itself

2. Show some leg... or not

Some dresses are at the perfect length that you can wear it as a tunic over jeans or later on by themselves when the thought of pants wants to make you faint alone. Don't forget leggings are still huge. They are so easy to throw on and provide that extra warmth you need. Spring we'll even have white ones to put on with those vibrant colored tunic tops coming in.

3. Cover Up

It seems obvious but the best thing to do is get a cardigan and throw over that cute top you can't just wait one more month to wear, even though its freezing outside. There are so many options out there including cardigans, boleros, sweatshirt fabric sweaters, and jackets .

I have come to LOVE this designer! She is a Russian designer, but moved from her home country and now resides in Atlanta. All the stones are semi-precious and while some pieces have the same design, each one is unique since all her jewelry is handmade. Her jewelry is gorgeous and one-of-a-kind. I have several of her pieces and just placed an order for more.

IN case you have been watching this season of The Bachelor with Jake Pavelka like i have, one of the girls was sporting this cute dress on her one on one date. Corrie Adamson, who resides in the Birmingham area, wore Nicole Miller pieces throughout the season until she was recently eliminated. We still have a few of these dresses but they're great pieces to have because they're comfy jersey fabric but still look tailored because of its ruching down the front. It literally makes everyone look great. Come in to try it on if you like this look
